The Birthright of Cicero office is currently looking for volunteers. Birthright welcomes volunteers who believe firmly in the Birthright philosophy and have a sincere desire to help pregnant women. Providing emotional support and practical help to women is always the first priority of Birthright volunteers. Volunteers handle a variety of phone calls, including those from girls and women who are overwhelmed about being pregnant or fear they may be pregnant. Volunteers also help women who come to the office, whether for a free pregnancy test, referrals and information or for a welcoming friend. Some volunteers choose to help in other ways, such as sorting maternity and baby clothes. Call Elizabeth at 317-984-7131 for more information.
The Altar Rosary of Our Lady of Grace in Noblesville organized a parish fundraiser for Birthright. Through the month of May, they collected a crib full of clothes, as well as $500 worth of Kroger gift cards for clients.
The ladies celebrated life with a cake and other goodies. In addition to the crib full of items, two handmade “baby towers” we made: one girl and one boy.
Thank you for organizing this event! Your gifts will allow us to be generous to those we serve.
Sacred Heart of Jesus Knights of Columbus Council #14476 hosted a fish fry to benefit Birthright of Cicero in March. About 25 men cooked and served fish to about 250 hungry guests. The result was a generous donation of $918.55 to Birthright.
Director Elizabeth Bridgewater stated, "The timing of the check was perfect. The volunteers who volunteer in Birthright's maternity clothing room had been changing the clothing selection from winter to summer and noticed that we didn't have much to offer our clients in summer shirts. Additionally, a client came in that week who needed x-large maternity shirts, and there was not much available. The check came in within 48 hours of the needs."
It is amazing to think that one group's inspiration to do charity in March, would meet such a practical need for those in an unplanned pregnancy in April. We just don't realize that the good we do today, is an answered prayer for someone in the future. Timing is everything . . . Now it is time to go shopping!
